Engineered suspended access solutions for one of the world's most iconic high-rise developments.

Scope

As part of the construction of One Za'abeel in Dubai, Aluma Systems delivered engineered suspended access solutions for one of the world's most recognizable mixed-use high-rise developments.

The landmark project consists of two iconic towers connected by a suspended cantilevered link bridge, creating one of the most complex structural connections ever built between two skyscrapers. To support the installation of structural steel, MEP systems and façade glazing, Aluma Systems designed and installed a customized suspended access solution that enabled safe and efficient construction throughout the project.

Challenge

The suspended link bridge required safe access to both its internal and external areas while construction activities were carried out hundreds of meters above ground.

In addition, installation and dismantling activities took place above a four-lane highway, requiring an engineered solution that protected people and traffic below while minimizing road closures. The project also demanded suspended working platforms capable of accommodating challenging cantilever geometries during the final glazing installation. 

Performance

Aluma Systems engineered and installed more than 5,600 m² (60,300 sq ft) of QuikDeck® suspended access platforms, providing safe access beneath the link bridge for structural steel, MEP and glazing installations.

To further enhance safety, the team designed and installed a movable horizontal net protection system that prevented falling objects while allowing installation and dismantling activities to be completed above the active highway. This innovative solution helped the client save more than USD 1 million by significantly reducing road closure requirements.

The project also incorporated unsupported cantilever sections ranging from 3.75 to 5.0 metres, allowing safe access during the final glazing installation. Rope access services complemented the suspended platform system, providing additional flexibility for specialized construction activities.
