Nachtigal Dam, Cameroon

Construction of a 420 MW greenfield hydroelectric power plant

Scope

The Nachtigal Dam project involved the construction of a 420 MW greenfield hydroelectric power plant in Cameroon. To support the demanding concrete works across the project, a comprehensive range of advanced formwork and access solutions was provided, including RASTO and H 22 formwork systems, climbing brackets, SCB dam brackets, ID 15new shoring, and MODEX stair towers. The integrated solution was specifically designed to meet the complex structural and operational requirements of the large-scale hydroelectric development.

Challenge

The construction of the Nachtigal Dam presented significant technical and engineering challenges due to the scale and geometry of the concrete structures. The project required reliable support solutions for large vertical and inclined structures while maintaining stability during massive concrete pours. In addition, strict safety requirements had to be maintained throughout all phases of construction within a highly demanding infrastructure environment. The complexity of the project demanded a flexible and robust system capable of adapting to varying structural conditions while ensuring efficient project execution.

Performance

The combination of advanced formwork, climbing, shoring, and access systems enabled efficient execution of the complex concrete works while maintaining high standards of safety and structural stability. The solutions provided the necessary support for large-scale pours and challenging geometries, contributing to reliable construction progress across the hydroelectric facility. Through the integration of multiple engineered systems, the project team was able to meet the demanding technical requirements of the Nachtigal Dam development while supporting safe and efficient construction operations.
